November 23rd is a very important day in all of the Sci Fi realm. On November 23, 1963, as the world was still dealing with the assasination of President Kennedy the day before, the BBC debut a new show. It began with a blue police box in an old junkyard and little did everyone know the world wide favorite it would become.
Happy Birthday, Doctor. Splendid fellow, all of them.
For your viewing pleasure, this fanmade trailer that I discovered and very much enjoy. There's a longer version available, but I prefer this one.

Here we have "Taichi O", with a bit of Steampunk thrown into the mix. Will be released in China in September, to be followed in the US in October, although there is talk of maybe being accepted at the Toronto Film Festival.

Here's the plot blurb:
As an uncommonly gifted child, Yang Luchan had a fleshy abnormality that holds tremendous power growing on his forehead. However being teased as the town fool, Yang’s mother spurs him to practice martial arts, and following her wishes, Yang travels the distance to come to Chen Village to learn TAI CHI.
At this legendary village, everyone practices TAI CHI and uses TAI CHI in every aspect of their lives. Nevertheless, it is forbidden for a villager to disclose TAICHI to an outsider, and Yang learned this the hard way.

Upon arriving at the village, locals discourage Yang by challenging him with fights. From the strong men to hold ladies to children, everyone defeats Yang with their TAICHI moves. After facing the toughest battle and being defeated by Master Chen’s beautiful daughter Yuniang, Yang is determined to master the art of TAICHI and he needs to find Master Chen.

Little does Yang know, the poor strange man who he befriended with is in fact Master Chen who then saved him from the duel with Yuniang. Master Chen realizes Yang’s genius and disguises himself to secretly guide Yang to his self realization of TAICHI.

One day, a frightening steam-powered machine came to the village, lead by Fang Zijing, a childhood friend of Yuniang. He has bribed government officials to permit him to build a railway that will run straight through the village. Yang decided to join forces with Yuniang to defeat Fang Zijing and destroy the machine. This brave act may just win the hearts of the villagers….

Oh, and as for the song.....I've no idea on it's title. Joshua Pfeiffer of Vernian Process was in the dark as to the title as well. A parody of it was used in one of the Muppets parody trailers for their film, supposedly based on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trailer, but the only trailers I saw of that film used a remake of the Led Zeppelin classic "Immigrant Song". Not going into details, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, and I vowed never to get involved in a serious relationship, again. Swearing to remain an SL Bachelor For Life.

In 2007, Eugenia Burton came to Steelhead. Eugenia, for those who didn't know, is a very flirtatious woman....and that, my friends, is a mere understatement. Mostly, she flirted with Herr Baron Wulfenbach, but on occasion, she did try flirting with me. Of course, I wanted no part of it, and even, one time, IM'd Lunar asking him to tell her to stop.

But, Genie is a wonderful person, over flirtatious that she is. Relay For Life weekend in July is not the same without her being there.

It was during the RFL Weekend in 2011 that I found out, from Mindy, that Genie thought I didn't like her, due to my avoiding her all this time. I felt very ashamed of that, as it was not the case, in fact, in 2010, I put myself on the auction block for a dance, knowing that it would be Genie who would be the highest bidder.

This year, at the Steelhead Salmons RFL team meeting, I asked for the challenge for when Steelhead raises a million lindens. After all, I couldn't think of how to top last year's challenge with "The Hair". One was I had to wear a T-shirt that says "The Baron Was Right All Along", as Baron Wulfenbach strongly believes that Steelhead has reached the point that raising a million lindens is very possible. The second was wearing a kilt for a year. Then, Thad and Riven suggested, "Fuzz has to marry Genie".

I realized then that, I didn't have to marry her, but I wanted to. Seriously, truly, without a doubt, wanted to marry Eugenia Burton. As I said, she is a wonderful person. Somehow it made sense, the quiet Lycan Lawman of the Steamlands settling down with the Flirt of Steelhead. There was also that humorous "50's Sitcom" side of it, where, due to Genie's funny nature, I would be the flustered husband dealing with her misadventures, I even developed a catchphrase "Confound it, Woman".

She had thought that it was only a yearly thing, from the Relay this year until the start of Relay weekend next, but I have assured her, I am hers until the Grid is no more and the last Linden crumbles to dust.

So, there you have it. Eugenia Burton becoming Mrs. Ortega, me being cheerful in group chat, and everyone.....I mean EVERYONE, excited about the wedding. It's not just the Steamlands, the Relay For Life group has talked about it, too. And with all the different time periods that's covered by the teams of RFL, this will be the Wedding Of The Centuries.

See you at the wedding in July

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-40117342336932931382012-03-17T15:35:00.002-07:002012-03-17T15:37:37.810-07:00Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, Trailer #2All I have to say is.....This movie had better not suck. The story was an imitation of an earlier novel, "The Steamman of the Plains", which was published in 1868 (That story, btw, was the first US Science Fiction dime novel).

Frank Reade's adventures included his inventions that included airships, both of the dirigible balloon and helicopter type, submersibles, steam-driven and electrical vehicles and steam powered robots.

Now, Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, authors of "Boilerplate", have released "Frank Reade: Adventures In the Age Of Invention".

Here's the book description: Before Jules Verne’s flying machines and H. G. Wells’s spaceships, there was Frank Reade, globe-trotting inventor and original steampunk hero. Frank Reade magazines were the world’s first science fiction periodicals, enthralling millions of readers with tales of fantastic inventions and adventures. Now many of the spectacular images from the vintage dime novel series are being reprinted for the first time in more than a century, along with excerpts from the action-packed stories. In Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention, this lost legacy of Americana is interwoven with a biography of the "real" Reade family—inventors and explorers who traveled the world with their helicopter airships, submarines, and robots, and who encountered figures like Geronimo and Houdini. This epic saga is brought to life in the multimedia style of the authors’ previous volume, the critically acclaimed Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel. Frank Reade is part–science fiction, part–alternate history, and entirely exciting!

The author's drew inspiration from Philip Jose Farmer's "Tarzan Alive" and "Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life", treating Frank Reade, and his family, as actual historical people.

And, here's the trailer for the book:

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-89700846841203748422012-01-23T11:33:00.000-08:002012-01-23T11:34:18.297-08:00Yea, I'm Way Off Topic.....But we all love to be heroes, and it's a worthy cause, with DC Comics matching your donation:

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-54888920617893775152011-11-22T14:14:00.000-08:002011-11-22T14:16:09.106-08:00Awesome Musical InterludeYes, I've got this and a few others in my music library, so it must might make it to a Steelhead Friday Night event.

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-62447887876931079342011-11-18T12:49:00.000-08:002011-11-18T12:51:11.150-08:00For You Time Lord Fans Out There.....The upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special, entitled, "The Doctor, The Widow, And The Wardrobe"......No really.

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-14930152589396056962011-11-13T23:01:00.000-08:002011-11-13T23:08:01.994-08:00Interesting Trailer...Well, at least until I find out more about Lego: The Movie (no, really, Warner Brothers is doing a feature film based on Legos).

Anyhoosits, here's the trailer to the upcoming mini-series "Neverland", which tells about how Peter Pan and Hook came to Neverland. It also has Bob Hoskins once again playing Mr. Smee.

It'll be shown in the States on SyFy on December 4th and 5th, I believe. Not sure when it'll be shown elsewhere around the world. The company that produced this also did the mini's "Tin Man" and "Alice".

Loved the ticking at the end of the trailer, and the "Take my hand, Peter" scene.Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-56441197631803075682011-10-31T13:16:00.000-07:002011-10-31T13:32:47.417-07:00Web Comic I FoundDunno if anyone else had blogged about this, as I don't get around to the blogs too much, but I found this web comic that's pretty interesting.

From Greg Rucka, who's done work on such comics as The Punisher, and Rick Burchett, who's done work on DC's all ages line, such as Batman: The Brave And The Bold, comes Lady Sabre and the Pirates of the Ineffable Aether

Set in the world known as The Sphere, it's an empty open sky, dotted with lands of different sizes that seem to float in mid air. The story has everything you'd expect in a Steampunk adventure. Fantastical weapons, swordfights, airships, and lots of fun.

Full details are available in the About section of the web comic. So far, they're a few pages into the second part of the story, so it's not too late to read it from the beginning. And just to give you a taste, here's an image, featuring Lady Sabre, Marshal Drake, and his assistant, Drum, along with a few of the floating lands and Lady Sabre's airship.

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921643037364133263.post-57388425713889716662011-10-30T17:13:00.000-07:002011-10-30T17:16:30.219-07:00Another Of Fuzzball's Musical InterludesFor those fans of Doctor Who that loved David Tennant's tenure on the show, this one's for you. The Ebby Awards, in regards to the event boards used to advertise team events (two of those, btw), and I was half expecting the award for "The Hair" that I wore, in the spontaneous fun categories (ironic, since last year, I received one for having a shiny scalp).

Two awards are the highest honors in the Relay For Life of Second Life. Spirit of Relay, both Team and Individual awards. They only give one award for the individual, which went to Passionate Redheads co-captain, and friend of Steelhead's, Daaneth Kivioq. Considering that he had a stroke shortly after kick off this year, and fought his way to recovery in order to return to SL and to RFL, and for awhile having to use voice as he was unable to type, the man deserved it.

The Spirit of Relay Team award, they have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place categories. The description for the award is as follow:

Awarded to the team that embodies the “Spirit of the Relay”. "Spirit of the Relay" includes an overall performance of the team from Kick Off to Relay Day. It is not representative of simply the amount raised. This award takes into consideration the "spirit" of the team, how they embraced Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society Mission, and the enthusiasm displayed. Also considered is the teams participation in Relay activities, as a whole, not only in their own but other team’s events, as well. Did they embody the ‘we’re all one big team’ aspect?

Award Eligibility Dates: Beginning with Kick Off Celebration and ending at Relay Event DayNominations to be submitted by: Relay Team Members and Committee MembersNomination Deadline to be announced via notice in RFL Volunteer GroupJudging to Be Done by Majority Vote. Judges: Awards Chair and Co-Chair, Event Day Chair and Co-Chair, RFL Chair & Co-Chair, ACS Rep, Teams Chair & Co-Chair

So, you see, everyone in the RFL Volunteers group puts their choice on a notecard, and the notecards are tallied up. Team Caledon got third place. Team OD got the first place award. 2nd place went to Steelhead Salmons.

Steelhead showed support in the RFL Volunteer group chat, those of us that were in that group. Some of us attended other team's events, and I'm not talking about within the Steamlands. Some of us helped other team's with their fundraising. And during Relay weekend, we stood at the Steelhead campsite and cheered everyone as they ran, walked, rolled, trotted, lagged on by. Basically, Steelhead was awarded for what Steelhead does best.....minus the explosions, but next year.......anyway.

Hearing the team announced as 2nd place winners was a complete surprise, I'm still in some shock of it all, as are many in Steelhead. Real Life interfered with alot of our plans, and most of what we wanted to do this year never came to light, and yet, we had made an impression on a lot of folks in the Relay group.

I always tell Steelhead that awards aren't everything, that there's a much greater purpose being involved in RFL of SL........but.....I THINK I can be allowed to be selfish, just this once. This is something that I'm very proud of, and something that couldn't be accomplished without all of Steelhead.

Next year's theme is "Time For A Cure". I think we can have fun with that one.

Raise X amount of lindens and......they go bald for a certain amount of time, they wear pink hair, etc. Last year, the challenge for Steelhead was to reach a certain amount, 400000 to be precise, and I'd go bald. We wound up with L$566000, more or less.

This year, I gave the wacky hair challenge. We made it up to the Platinum category, having raised over L$500000, and I'd wear the most outrageous, wildest, and wackiest hair available in Second Life.........boy, does Steelhead know how to find them. Ladies and Gentlemen.....and Lunar.....and Tensai......and Dwen......and Jobias......and Me......I present, The Hair That Can Crash The Grid....actually, it's only 255 prims:

Yup, that's me and my new hairstyle

The Lomgren Smalls Ballroom.

These help keep the hair from getting out of place.

Side view, with the blimps that also help keep the hair up.

The hair can be changed to different colors. Three different shades of blonde, three different shades of red, three brown, three black, plus Green, Lavender, Pink, and Blue. Of course, would be great if others would be willing to join me in this as well.....I mean, come on, it's the most stylish hairstyle in all of Second Life.

Hair, Rocco Fantastico Hairstyle, available at Curio Obscura. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Rendervisions%20Isle/171/158/77

Fuzzball Ortegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08105503367947546821noreply@blogger.com0
